UNT Police Department earns fifth consecutive reaccreditation by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators
DENTON (UNT), Texas — Once again, the University of North Texas Police Department has earned accreditation by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).
Less than 2 percent of university/college law enforcement and public safety agencies nationwide have achieved accreditation through IACLEA. It is the department’s fifth consecutive award since earning its initial accreditation in 2007.
A voluntary, international program, IACLEA accreditation recognizes an agency’s commitment to the highest professional standards for campus law enforcement and protective services. Candidate agencies undergo a review across 195 standards in areas ranging from policy and procedure to organizational management to support services and operations tailored to a campus environment. Successful agencies have to continuously meet the standards through a four-year cycle.
IACLEA was founded in 1958 to address the job challenges and mutual issues that campus Public Safety agencies across the country share. Today, IACLEA members represent over 1000+ institutions of higher education in 11 countries.
The UNT Police Department is also among a select group of university/college law enforcement agencies to achieve dual accreditation. The department was awarded its fifth consecutive advanced accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), in November 2019. Advanced accreditation through CALEA represents the gold standard in law enforcement. Successful agencies must undergo a rigorous review across 456 advanced standards and maintain continuous compliance through a four-year cycle.
